Nothing can be more gratifying than volunteering your time and energy to a good cause. As an energy worker, everyone and every living thing can always use a reiki boost. I have a deep passion and love of all creatures and learned about a great organization called Hemopet, that helps to rescue former racetrack greyhounds. If you know a little Latin, “hemo” means blood and you may think what does blood have to do with rescue dogs? A fun fact is greyhounds have a universal blood type, which means they are able to donate blood to other dogs in need. It’s a great way for the newly rescued pups to save lives while they await their forever home.
Since these dogs lived a tough life on the racetrack, they are so eager for love and affection. They are like little sponges waiting for healing energy and love. Giving animals reiki is liken to giving a child reiki–sometimes less is better. Just like a fidgety child, an animal also can’t usually sit still for long periods of time nor do they require long sessions. Animals work on a higher intelligence than us and they know what they need. When performing reiki, allows yourself to follow your intuition and let it guide you. If you sense the animal has “finished” then the energy has stopped flowing and the animal received what they needed at this time.
Hemopet is always looking for volunteers and of course anyone interested in adopting these wonderful animals. You can visit them at:
